Printing your Images

photo dimensions

The sample photo to the left shows 3 versions of the same photo. The red boxes show how the image will be cropped at different print sizes.

The camera’s sensor produces images in the dimensions of a 4×6 print (2:3 ratio). I edit my images in these dimensions as well. When you blow up a 2:3 ratio image to an image size of 8×10, which has a 4:5 ratio, you are going to crop off 2 inches from the original image size.

Ideally my images should be printed in 2:3 ratio sizes, 4×6, 6×9, 8×12, and 16×24. I recommend using MPix.com. This is a professional quality lab who just recently opened their business up to the general public and offers all of the 2:3 ratio sizes.
