I was so excited when mom told me she wanted her maternity photos to be different. She wanted to shoot in Lake Linganore, where she grew up, approximately 15 years after I grew up there. She told me she would like to do some shots in the water as well. Fortunately this was via email, so my squeals of joy were not overheard. I have become obsessed with shots of beautiful beaches shot partially under water from inside the curl of a wave. Something I will never shoot, as I have no desire to be inside the curl of a wave. I have researched all the technical aspects of those shots, and the majority of them are captured with a GoPro. So I borrowed one to bring along.
We spent the first ten minutes of the maternity shoot dry, and then mom headed for the water. Dad, who owns Tailwinds over Frederick and pilots the hot air balloon, was my assistant in the water. ( You bet, I am going for a hot air balloon ride this summer) He held whichever camera I wasn’t working with, and was not afraid to use either of them. He got some great working shots as well as the shot of his daughter Ms L looking up. The header image and the first two images in the post were take with the GoPro. They came out pretty great, considering I had never used one before. It was difficult to choose my favorite shots from this maternity session. Here they are:
